The Coathanger Guitar is a one-string instrument. Played by hitting and applying pressure on the string with a round wooden stick; differences in pitch can be achieved by rolling the stick along the string. Alternatively, it can be played with a bow. To amplify the sound, the coathanger guitar is most often played on top of an echo box or a table, or with a pickup microphone attached below the hanger.
